Scotiabank Tightens USD Spending Limits for Credit Cards in Trinidad

In response to rising demand and limited USD availability, Scotiabank Trinidad has reduced its monthly foreign exchange limit for credit card transactions to USD $2,000. This move reflects a national trend as banks work to manage access to foreign currency amid economic constraints. The reduced limit impacts all Scotiabank credit card holders in Trinidad, affecting overseas and online purchases in foreign currency

These are the current USD spending caps from major banks in Trinidad:

  • First Citizens Bank: Visa Classic cardholders are limited to USD $5,000 monthly. Requests for additional access can be made for critical cases such as medical or educational expenses
  • Republic Bank Limited (RBL): Foreign exchange on RBL credit cards is capped at USD $5,000 per month, with regular reviews to adjust for economic conditions

As the banks monitor USD availability, customers are advised to stay updated on any changes to foreign exchange access policies.
